Winter Burial
Winter Burial
For five days
There has been no wind.
Life held hostage by the
Silent cold.
Somber
Since the children left.
The only movement,
The only sound,
Was of the Christmas tree
Brittle, shedding
Clawing at the snow
Its magic gone,
As I dragged it
Down
To our new woods
Searching for the secluded spot
To hide its shame
or mine.
This would be the first of many.
But then,
It could always be the last.
